The tour routes were selected in such a way to fully exhibit beauty of Hainan. In addition to following competition rules and race standards, the organization committee carefully chose the routes by including multiple distinctive sightseeing roads with Hainan styles such as the tourism highway from Wanning Shimeiwan to Dahuajiao, the route from Haikou Binjiang Road to Coastal Avenue, and Changjiang Qiziwan tourism road. A number of characteristic scenic spots are also distributed along the tour routes, including Xinglong Resort, Wuzhi Mountain, Wanquan River, Haitang Bay, Meilang Sister Tower, Diaoluo Mountain, Yanuoda, and Betelnut Valley. Such arrangements achieve a perfect combination of unique coastal views, mysterious rain forest, South China Sea scenes, and Li and Miao minority culture with the sport event. In 2016 Tour of Hainan, through live coverage by CCTV, the whole world will again have a taste of the charm of Hainan, a resort paradise, together with the cyclists.

Hainan Island International Road Bicycle Tour (or Tour of Hainan in short) was launched in 2006 jointly by General Administration of Sport of China and Hainan government. It is one of the major international sport events explicitly defined in Suggestions by the State Council on Promoting the Construction and Development of Hainan International Tourism Island and developed by Hainan Party Committee and Hainan government with great efforts. After ten years of successful operation, it has become a global 2.HC race and a top level brand of road bicycle race across Asia. This tour attracts the highest number of world top professional cyclists among all bicycle races in China. It's also the first Chinese brand of road cycling race that has been completely live broadcast by CCTV. This event, thanks to its professional organization, innovative route design, high competition level, and perfect logistics services, has greatly driven development of bicycle sport in China or even Asia, and attracted attention from professional cyclists and media from across the globe. It has therefore become an important portal and hallmark for promoting Hainan as an international tourism island to the whole world.
